SUMMARY:'Faith Resurrected: An Immigrant Daughter’s Reckoning with American Christianity' Featuring Kristin T. Lee
DESCRIPTION:On November 15\, 2026\, the Reformed Institute of Metropolitan Washington is pleased to welcome Kristin T. Lee\, author of the memoir We Mend with Gold\, for a free presentation\, “Faith Resurrected: An Immigrant Daughter’s Reckoning with American Christianity.” \nThe in-person event will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the National Presbyterian Church\, 4101 Nebraska Avenue\, Washington\, DC 20016. Free parking is available in the church lot. \nKristin T. Lee is a writer whose work has appeared in Christianity Today and Sojourners\, and she is also a primary care physician serving Boston’s Chinatown community. \nIn We Mend with Gold\, Lee—a daughter of the Asian American church—wrestles with faith\, exile\, and belonging. As a child\, Lee was taught (or learned) that being Christian has little to do with being a Chinese American. This opened a fissure between her identity and what she was told to believe. In the book she asks: What if we can bridge the divide? \nDrawing on Black\, Asian\, and other minoritized theologians\, Lee separates the theology of empire from what Jesus preached and lived. Writing of the fractures in our families\, churches\, and the world\, Lee relies on the Japanese art of kintsugi to describe the resplendence of a faith that repairs but doesn’t paper over. And she offers pieces of the Asian American experience—such as liminality\, displacement\, and exile—that attend to the breaking and the mending\, the wounding and the healing. How might marginality bring us closer to God and others? What do we lose when we “make it”? And when we expand our notion of who belongs to our family\, what do we gain? \nRSVP appreciated below. \nView event flyer. \nFull Author Biography\nI am a writer\, book lover\, and storyteller. \nMy engine runs on stories. I want to have my heart changed by stories\, I want to amplify profound stories\, and I want to tell my own stories. My first book\, We Mend with Gold: An Immigrant Daughter’s Reckoning with American Christianity\, chronicles my journey of wrestling with doubt and faith\, family and solidarity\, and the gifts and burdens of cultural norms. \nMy work has been featured in Sojourners and Christianity Today\, and I serve as a columnist for The Covenant Companion. \nMy areas of interest are eclectic\, but include Asian American life\, nature\, theology\, immigrant/refugee narratives\, parenthood\, incarceration policy\, science\, global health\, class inequality\, and all things literary. \nMost of all\, I am inclined towards hope\, joy\, and justice in an often brutal world. I’m always eager to find fellow travelers on this journey. \nVisit Author Website
